Multi-modal EEG and fMRI Source Estimation Using Sparse Constraints

چکیده
In this paper a multi-modal approach is presented and validated on real data to estimate the brain neuronal sources based on EEG and fMRI. Combining these two modalities can lead to source estimations with high spatio-temporal resolution. The joint method is based on the idea of linear model already presented in the literature where each of the data modalities are first modeled linearly based on the sources. Afterwards, they are integrated in a joint framework which also considers the sparsity of sources. The sources are then estimated with the proximal algorithm. The results are validated on real data and show the efficiency of the joint model compared to the uni-modal ones. We also provide a calibration solution for the system and demonstrate the effect of the parameter values for uniand multi-modal estimations on 8 subjects.

A Parametric Empirical Bayesian Framework for the EEG/MEG Inverse Problem: Generative Models for Multi-Subject and Multi-Modal Integration
We review recent methodological developments within a parametric empirical Bayesian (PEB) framework for reconstructing intracranial sources of extracranial electroencephalographic (EEG) and magnetoencephalographic (MEG) data under linear Gaussian assumptions. The PEB framework offers a natural way to integrate multiple constraints (spatial priors) on this inverse problem, such as those derived ...
متن کاملA Single Session of rTMS Enhances Small-Worldness in Writer’s Cramp: Evidence from Simultaneous EEG-fMRI Multi-Modal Brain Graph
Background and Purpose: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) induces widespread changes in brain connectivity. As the network topology differences induced by a single session of rTMS are less known we undertook this study to ascertain whether the network alterations had a small-world morphology using multi-modal graph theory analysis of simultaneous EEG-fMRI. Method: Simultaneous...
متن کاملRelating resting-state fMRI and EEG whole-brain connectomes across frequency bands
Whole brain functional connectomes hold promise for understanding human brain activity across a range of cognitive, developmental and pathological states. So called resting-state (rs) functional MRI studies have contributed to the brain being considered at a macroscopic scale as a set of interacting regions. Interactions are defined as correlation-based signal measurements driven by blood oxyge...
متن کاملHuman brain mapping : Hemodynamic response and electrophysiology q
In view of the recent advance in functional neuroimaging, the current status of non-invasive techniques applied for human brain mapping was reviewed by integrating two principles: hemodynamic and electrophysiological, from the viewpoint of clinical neurophysiology. The currently available functional neuroimaging techniques based on hemodynamic principles are functional magnetic resonance imagin...
متن کاملBayesian multi-modal model comparison: A case study on the generators of the spike and the wave in generalized spike-wave complexes
We present a novel approach to assess the networks involved in the generation of spontaneous pathological brain activity based on multi-modal imaging data. We propose to use probabilistic fMRI-constrained EEG source reconstruction as a complement to EEG-correlated fMRI analysis to disambiguate between networks that co-occur at the fMRI time resolution. The method is based on Bayesian model comp...
